INSPIRATION FOR GETTING STARTED!
The famed poet Maya Angelou wrote a poem titled HUMAN FAMILY, which explores our connectedness as human beings. We are more alike, my friends, than we are unlike, she says.
LISTEN to Angelou’s reading of her poem or READ the poem. What do you think she is telling us? We invite you to discuss with your own family and friends. What is family, and what does it mean to you?
As artists, we find inspiration from people and things all around us! Here are some tips to get your creative ideas flowing and begin your journey with LunART:
Use found objects and non-traditional materials from your home.
Look at family photographs, heirlooms, or special gifts. How can you capture or express the emotions you see and feel in your art?
Engage all your senses: sight, sound, taste, smell, touch. For example, how do you feel when you touch the blanket your grandma made for you? What scents remind you of your loved ones? Maybe it’s freshly-baked cookies coming out of the oven!

Photograph in a location that is well-lit with diffused, indirect natural light to avoid strong shadows. For example, imagine the light outdoors on a cloudy day.
