LUNART CHAMBER MUSIC COLLECTIVE
presents 24/25 season opener
WINDS OF CHANGE
FRI, NOV 8 at 7 pm | SUN, NOV 10 at 2 pm
We are delighted to open the 2024-25 season featuring guest bassoonist Eleni Katz for a first-time performance with LunART Chamber Music Collective in collaboration with flutist Iva Ugrcic and pianist Alyona Waldo. Our anchor Madison venue, The Arts + Literature Laboratory (111 S. Livingston St, Madison), will host the kick-off on Friday, November 8, at 7 pm, followed by our debut appearance at Frank Lloyd Wright’s Taliesin (6604 Hwy 23, Spring Green) on Sunday, November 10, at 2 pm. Expect to be inspired by art and nature at Taliesin’s newly-renovated, historic Hillside Theater, a true Wisconsin icon. In our signature style, a diverse palette of repertoire will explore the past and present of women composers, and this program will fuse influences of African-American spirituals, Welsh folk music, and Eastern music traditions.
Audiences will experience a spectrum of music by women composers spanning the past 150 years, beginning in 19th century France. Trailblazer Louise Farrenc (1804-1875), whose music was programmed alongside Beethoven and Hector Berlioz, rallied for (and achieved) equal pay to her male counterparts and was the only woman professor appointed to the prestigious Paris Conservatory throughout the entire century.
American Undine Smith Moore (1904-1989), hailed as the “Dean of Black Women Composers,” and the influential Welsh composer Grace Mary Williams (1906-1977) both developed distinct musical languages akin to their cultural identities.
Contemporary composers Lila Meretzky and Reena Esmail transport this one-of-a-kind program to the 21st century.
Don’t miss the launch of our 2024-25 concert season!
