The first of two spectacular gala concerts promises an electrifying journey through the East and beyond. Audiences will be swept away by the vibrant energy of 2025 Composer-in-Residence Chen Yi’s Qi, then carried into the bold rhythms of 2025 Call for Scores Winner Lingbo Ma’s Dance Unleashed—a fearless celebration of movement and sound. Eugenie Rocherolle’s Sonata No. 1 offers a moment of lyrical elegance and introspection, revealing the composer’s signature blend of classical form and rich romantic expression. The evening reaches a powerful crescendo with "The Trial of Susan B. Anthony," a gripping musical drama by Steven Mark Kohn, brought to life by the commanding voice of guest mezzo-soprano Adriana Zabala.

Audiences will be transported to 1873, stepping into a courtroom where history is on trial in "The Trial of Susan B. Anthony." This compelling work dramatizes the landmark case of Anthony’s arrest and conviction for voting as a woman, blending historical texts with poignant music to illuminate a defining moment in the fight for women’s suffrage. Featuring acclaimed guest soprano Adriana Zabala in the title role, the performance promises to be both powerful and provocative—an unforgettable tribute to courage, conviction, and the ongoing struggle for justice.
